Photojournalism has the ability to tell a story within a particular culture or issue, it also has the strength to force its way into the mainstream media to help change or to force debate.I am a photojournalist and documentary photographer based in Morecambe, UK. Working on a current personal assignment documenting the
Royal National Lifeboat Institution (R.N.L.I).I have strong communication skills and an interest in social, political and environmental issues that reflect on my personal library and thesis. My academic years gave me knowledge of IT, research and event organisational skills backed up with relevant volunteer work within the
charity, media & event sectors. This has given me excellent understanding and initiative to pursue a passion towards participating in NGO work. I have good sense of humour, dynamic and ambitious personality that is passionate about constructive social advocacy.
My
major pieces of work focuses on social, political and foreign dilemmas that plague the lives of many worldwide. I have found compelling stories that have been reflected through the medium of photography. A written Thesis on the government control of the mass media in the 90's with regards to war photography.
I am an active member of the NUJ, volunteered for BBC, Red Cross and events for Oxfam & R.N.L.I. I am also well travelled with visits across Europe twice on a motorbike, to
Western Sahara and across the USA. Being a keen traveller has advanced my navigational and logistical skills. I also read political theory and foreign affairs correspondents biographies as I have a keen interest in stories involving policy and change. I also am a keen footballer being a Vice-Captain at university for two years.
I am an active blogger on
stephensidlo.blogspot.com My goals will be to continue to learn second and third languages, gain more valuable experience abroad by travelling to developing countries and volunteer to enhance photo libraries for NGO's and Organisations in the field.
