RON HAVIV

Photojournalism Today

October 25 - 26, 2010
Deadline for submissions: Closed

This intense two-day workshop will explore the multi-faceted approaches to photojournalism and help guide participants on their own path. Discussions will include what is required of a photojournalist, not just in the field but also organizing workflow, developing a marketing plan and publishing your images.

Developing a personal sensitivity and visual style will be discussed and Haviv will encourage participants to work using instinct rather than formula. These discussions will help develop each student's individual narrative direction. The workshop will combine lectures, portfolio reviews, a thematic assignment, and editing sessions. Haviv will also share his own work and experience as a photojournalist.

In two short days, Haviv will help you understand the reality of photojournalism today and share his tips on what it takes to cover the world. You will leave with a clearer understanding of what it takes and be well along the way to defining your personal path forward in the world of photography.

hi, sorry for chiming in rather late, but as a participant of the first workshop (with antonin kratochvil) i just want to thank vii/canon for such an amazing opportunity. john was top of his game in sharing the world of multimedia, both conceptually and technically...scott and stephen were incisive and wise in their perspectives on what this multimedia means in the changing photojournalism business landscape...and antonin himself was a creative buddha. but i must say, i learned most from being around the other attendees...what a wonderful group of emerging photographers, doing some diverse and stunning work. in-depth discussions like these really leave me inspired and recharged, and most importantly, confident. thanks to all!

It would be great if these workshops could make it to the midwest. I would like to see VII work out some type of collaboration with Northwestern University or Columbia College.

The NU - Medill School of Journalism has a great facility.

VII. That's tight but still doable to take two days off in case I will get that opportunity. Thanks for the quick response. Dirk

Please do consider India too :) .... I would love to apply but it is a whole process of visa and other formalities would make it impossible. But I really appreciate the venture.

Thanks for your comments. Aga - It's true, we receive many submissions but it's still worth submitting, especially since it's free! Monirul - These particular workshops will not be available online. Kirk - There are currently no plans to produce workshops in the UK, perhaps in the future.
